It feels like summer just got started, and somehow we’re already heading into one of my favourite times of year — fall on Salt Spring Island!

There is SO much going on during the fall. The island may slow down a little after the busy summer months, but it certainly doesn’t stop! In fact, fall is one of the best times to come for a visit.

The days are still beautiful, the crowds have eased up, the air is a little crisper, and there’s something so cozy about wandering around Ganges, discovering local shops and galleries, enjoying a great meal, and then coming back to Mariners Loft to relax and watch the harbour.

One of the highlights of the season is the Salt Spring Island Fall Fair, happening September 12 & 13.

It’s such a fun island tradition, with farm animals, local produce, crafts, exhibits, entertainment, demonstrations and, of course, lots of delicious food.

It’s a wonderful way to experience the community spirit of Salt Spring — local, a little quirky, and a whole lot of fun!

Did you know Salt Spring Island is home to more than 500 different varieties of apples?!

Yep — more than 500! 🍎

Many of them are heritage varieties that you won’t find in your average grocery store. Fall is the perfect time to discover just how special our island orchards are.

And if you want to see (and taste!) some of these amazing apples, the Salt Spring Island Apple Festival on September 27 is the place to be.

One of the things I love about Salt Spring is that our Saturday Market doesn’t just disappear when summer does!

The market runs every Saturday from April right through October 31. That’s a whole lot of Saturdays!

Fall is a particularly lovely time to wander through Centennial Park and see what our local farmers, artists, bakers and makers have been creating.

Pick up some fresh island produce, enjoy some baking, browse the artwork and handmade treasures, and maybe find something you absolutely didn’t know you needed!

And don’t forget about the Tuesday Farmers’ Market, which also continues into October.

There are also live music, art shows, galleries, workshops, great restaurants and all kinds of events happening throughout the fall.

That’s one of the wonderful things about Salt Spring — there always seems to be something happening, but at the same time, there’s plenty of opportunity to slow down and simply enjoy being here.
