Can you believe summer is already behind us? As the days get a little shorter and the island starts to settle into fall, Salt Spring takes on a whole different kind of charm.

I have to admit, fall is my favourite time of year here. I love the cooler days, the beautiful colours, and the slower pace that settles over the island. There’s something about this time of year that just makes you want to take a deep breath, slow down and enjoy being here.

Come for the events, stay for the quiet.

October and November are wonderful months to explore the island without the hustle and bustle of summer. The Saturday and Tuesday Markets are still happening in October, local farmers are bringing in the last of the season’s harvest, the galleries are full of beautiful work, and there are concerts, workshops and community events happening around the island.

And then there’s the other side of fall on Salt Spring…

A quiet morning with a cup of coffee. A walk through the woods with the leaves changing around you. An afternoon wandering through the galleries. A stop at a local cidery, winery or cheese farm. Or curling up in front of the fire and doing absolutely nothing.

Honestly, that sounds pretty perfect to me.

Salt Spring Island is home to more than 500 varieties of apples! Fall is the perfect time to appreciate just how much local history and agriculture is tucked into this little island.

November brings an even slower pace, but there’s still plenty to see and do. Art lovers can look forward to Artcraft Winter, opening November 20 at Mahon Hall, featuring beautiful handmade work from local artists—just in time for some very special Christmas shopping.

There are also concerts, performances, workshops and plenty of opportunities to explore the island at your own pace.

I know some of you are already looking forward to next summer—and our weekends are filling up quickly!
